Discussing The Purrfect Holiday That Celebrates The Beautiful Breed Of Siamese Cats

April is known for many holidays. April Fool’s Day, Easter Sunday, Tax Day, etc. However, one of the most criminally underrated holidays of April is National Siamese Cat Day on April 6th. Cats are truly wonderful creatures that should be celebrated everyday. However, the specific breed of Siamese cats are one of the most popular breeds of cats in the world. We believe that’s something worth celebrating. This article will cover everything you need to know about Siamese cats and the holiday that honors them.

What Is A Siamese Cat?

The Siamese cat is a specific breed of cat that is distinctly recognizable by its elegant, sleek, and distinctive appearance. Iconically known for their silver/gray fur and bright blue eyes, their fur can also come in a variety of other colors such as cream, brown, and orange. Aside from their unmistakable appearance, Siamese cats are also very intelligent, affectionate, and sociable creatures. They are known for being very active and often form strong bonds with the people around them.

Fun Facts About Siamese Cats

While all cats are amazing animals, there is something truly special about Siamese cats. It’s difficult to describe what makes them so amazing unless you actually met one yourself. But, we will do our best anyway. Here are a few fun facts about Siamese cats that help contribute to them being so incredible.

An Old Breed:

Siamese cats originate from Thailand where they are called “Siam.” The first written recording of them is in a 14th century Taiwanese manuscript called “Tamra Maew” which translates to “The Cat Book Poems.” According to The Spruce Pets website, it is said that the king of Siam (modern day Thailand) gifted a Siamese cat to an English consulate general during the late 1800’s. This is supposedly how the Siamese breed first arrived in Europe.

A Royal Treasure:

Throughout history, Siamese cats have been treasured by royal families in Thailand. This is primarily due to their unique and beautiful appearance. In Thailand tradition, it is believed that after death your soul would transfer into the body of a Siamese cat.

Born All White:

Similar to Dalmatians, Siamese cats are born all white and don’t develop their unique colors and patterns until weeks after birth. The pigments in their fur don’t change color until after being exposed to colder temperatures below 100 degrees.

Loved By The Famous:

This beautiful breed of cat is adored by many and has been known to grace the homes of many celebrities. Famous actors like Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Elizabeth Taylor, and Andy Warhol have been known to own Siamese cats. Even Lucy Webb Hayes, wife of president Rutherford B. Hayes, was known to own a Siamese cat while serving as First Lady in the White House.

A Talkative Breed:

Siamese cats are also well known for being very vocal. They have a unique and distinct type of meow that distinguishes themselves from other breeds of cats. This meow is very attention grabbing and is sure to be noticed by nearly everyone in your home. As previously mentioned, Siamese cats are very social creatures and this distinct meow is just another way for them to communicate with those around them.
